The Leaving is a re-enactment of the film Workers Leaving the Lumière Factory in Lyon (1895) by the Lumière Brothers. Karolina Breguła’s remake was shot at the north entrance to the Ujazdowski Castle in Warsaw and features employees of the Centre for Contemporary Art. The people who exit the building in succession are: head of the trade union, personnel of the departments of documentation, accounting and promotion, curators, coordinators, assistants, cleaning staff. The last one to leave is the director, who closes the door to the Castle. The Leaving is a commentary on the conflict between the then director and the staff of the Centre for Contemporary Art, as a result of which many employees lost or resigned from their jobs.
